Why Massage?

Massage therapy addresses a variety of health conditions.  Clearly, the most pervasive is stress related tension, which left untreated, can often result in "dis"-ease manifested illness.  Here are just a few that quickly come to mind, fatigue, sleep disorders, high blood pressure, back pain, diabetes, immunity suppression, age & eating related disorders, and depression.

Bodywork offers an alternative drug-free non-invasive and humanistic approach based on the body's natural ability to heal itself.  That makes sense but there is so much more.  Bodywork physiologically:

  • Increases circulation
  • Stimulates the body's lymph system defenses against toxic intruders
  • Relaxes, encourages, and expedites restoration of overused muscles
  • Reduces spasms and cramping
  • Increases joint flexibility
  • Releases endorphins, the natural painkiller
  • Improves range of motion and decreases discomfort for patients with low back pain
  • Relieves Migraine pain and decreases the need for medication
  • Provides exercise and stretching for atrophied muscles and restricted range
Your therapist will ask you about your specific health conditions and determine whether massage, bodywork, or somatic therapies are appropriate.  In some cases, the therapist may need your doctor's permission before providing services.

Studies continue to reveal the link between kinesiology, physical, and emotional health.  In the meantime, one need only experience a good massage to personally understand its benefits to our body, mind, and soul.
